Goodwill Industries of Ventura and Santa Barbara Counties is a vendor of the Department of Rehabilitation (DOR) and provides free one-on-one employment services to individuals with disabilities. Our program is referral based and all referrals must be received from DOR.
Services can be provided in person at our offices, virtually using Zoom or over the phone, or a combination. We are also able to provide services at various locations for those who cannot come into our offices. We have bilingual staff available to provide services in both English and Spanish.
The DOR Student Services Paid Work Experience program provides students with disabilities paid work experience to explore different types of jobs, gain experience in an employment setting, learn new skills, and obtain employer references.
Services we provide:
We will develop an individualized plan for services and enrollment into the program.
We will help you develop a professional resume, gain interview skills, and develop work-life skills.
Work experience with a local employer is paid at minimum wage for up to 100 hours or 90 days, whichever comes first.
Eligibility:
This program is only open to students ages 16 – 21 who have a documented disability and are referred by DOR. You must also have I-9 documentation (or the ability to obtain).
Our services for individuals with disabilities are provided on a one-on-one basis. You will work with one of our Employment Services Coordinators who will provide case management, job search assistance, and other employment services. We focus on providing direct placement into competitive employment with employers in the community. (We do not currently provide supported employment services.)
Services we provide:
We will develop an individualized service plan and review our policies/procedures for the program.
Professional resume development and interview preparation and practice.
We will assist you with job search in your chosen vocational goal, advocate on your behalf with local employers, and submit applications and resumes to open positions.
Once you’ve found a job, we will follow up with you for 90 days to make sure the job is a good fit.
If you need extra assistance in learning on the job, we will provide job coaching to you to help you become successful.
